Based in New York City, Venator Publishing is a small, independent publishing house that is undeniably a David amongst the Goliaths in the publishing arena. That is because it is Venator's singular choice to represent authors whose individual truths are by no means sitting on the shores of the mainstream book markets, clinging to the tried and true formulas of 'what sells'.

Each book put forth by Venator Publishing will be a work of literary fiction, written by authors who have, by their own choices of individual self-expressions, left behind them the safety of putting to word what will sell. They have gone out far past the safe, shallow waters of the mainstream to the deep, fathomless depths of conscience-scraping, harsh and brutal honesty.

At Venator, our books are not meant to entertain. They tell stories. They do not compromise. They confront that pliable mask and remove the thin veneer of acceptable storytelling, thereby revealing all of what lies on the underside of society's entrenched mores, where all offenses are both given and taken. They reveal truths that are by no means or even faintly resembling pretty. One could just be turning a page and possibly feel the stinging imprint of a sharply directed slap across the face of one's own reality.

In the reading of 'In The Midst Of Savage Darkness', whatever rises up out of the deep wells of one's imagination, interpretation, or affirmation may leave its own particular mark of rage, indignation, or sorrow.

On that note, our first release for 2003 is 'In The Midst of Savage Darkness', a novel by Rocco Gemma (pronounced: Jem-ma). Three hundred pages in length, the book contains three novellas, 'In The Midst of Savage Darkness', 'Taking The Long Way Home', and 'Mandatory Refusal'.

Our books don't entertain. They don't compromise. They provoke.TM
